Another piece of history can be found just a 15-minute drive away, in Schokland, which was once a type of Urk, abandoned in 1859 by order of the king due to the risk of flooding. The museum, the adjoining buildings and the port show you how the water impacted the life and fate of the inhabitants, pushing them into poverty. By contrast, the Batavia Harbour in Lelystad, about a half hour from the resort, illustrates the wealth the sea brought to the Netherlands. Here you will see two replicas of 17th-century ships.

In Nature Park Lelystad, special animals live in a natural environment. You can come face to face with a bison, wild boar, red deer, Przewalski horse or even an elk. Storks, otters, beavers, moufflons and Father Davidsherten also live in the park.
For the nearest city with shops, you should be in Harderwijk. In summer the whole square is full of lovely terraces and in winter there is a skating rink! Harderwijk has more to offer, such as a boulevard on the water.
