The historical city center of Meppel has surprisingly much to offer for a fun day trip. Characteristic of Meppel is that it reminds a lot of Amsterdam with its Heerengracht, Keizersgracht and Prinsengracht. You can also enjoy excellent shopping, culinary delights and you can stroll through the old streets. The fact that Meppel was originally a pleasant farming community and grew into an important trading city can still be clearly seen today in its extraordinary hospitality, historic buildings and warehouses. During the summer days, the Donderdag Meppeldagen take place on six Thursdays, where festivals, flea markets and canal concerts take place. You can swim and climb with the kids at Bad Hesselingen and visit Indonesian animals in the Taman Indonesia Zoo.
