Drenthe is well known for pure nature with its beautiful nature reserves. For example, there is Dwingelerveld National Park, south of Dwingeloo. This is the largest wet heath area in Western Europe. Or Drents-Friese Wold National Park on the Frisian border, with its 6000 hectares of forest, heathland, shifting sand and stream grasslands. Then there is Drentsche Aa National Park in the north, which is known for its centuries-old landscape. Dwingelderveld National Park

Welcome to Dwingelderveld National Park, where you can quietly enjoy all the beauty around you. Listen to the song of the many birds, smell the wonderful scent of the forest and view vast natural landscapes from above, as far as the eye can see. As a Natura 2000 area, Dwingelderveld National Park is optimally protected and restored. The special thing about this national park is that it is also maintained by two herds of heath sheep. The two sheepfolds can be found on the Benderse near the visitor center and at the Achter 't Zaand near Lhee. In this beautiful nature reserve you can walk 60 kilometers of hiking trails in various lengths. Cyclists are also delighted with kilometers of cycle paths.

Drents-Friese Wold National Park

In the north of Drenthe, on the border with the province of Friesland, lies National Park Drents-Friese Wold. With over 130 kilometers of walking routes, this nature reserve is fantastic for walkers to explore. This nature reserve in Drenthe is also seen as one of the most beautiful and important nature reserves in Europe and has therefore been designated a Natura 2000 area. With 6000 hectares of forest, heathland, shifting sand and stream valley grasslands, you will not get bored during your walking or cycling route. Who knows, you might run into a hunebed! Climb the watchtower and enjoy panoramic views of the area. The children will also have an unforgettable day in the Drents-Friese Wold National Park with their adventurous walk on the Kabouterpad or the Paddenpad.

Drentsche Aa National Park

The natural landscape of Drentsche Aa National Park has a distant history that is clearly noticeable in the villages, fields and streams. It is therefore the best-preserved brook-esdorp landscape in Europe. The national park has a diverse landscape in which vast moors, green forests and sandy lakes with beaches. It is the habitat of beautiful heath cows and the largest sheep herd of Drenthe. National Park Drentsche Aa also has a network of different hiking trails, varying in difficulty and length for both experienced hikers and families with children. There is also no shortage of cycling routes in the area, with nice stops at cafes, inns and benches.
