Nature lovers are in the right place here. Here you will find the widest and most varied nature area along the coast of the Netherlands: the Schoorl Dunes. EuroParcs Koningshof is located in a picturesque village in North Holland, in Schoorl, and lies on the edge of National Park de Schoorlse Duinen. Come and get plenty of fresh air, climb, walk or cycle. More than 60 kilometers of hiking trails have been constructed, leading you to the highest dunes, the oldest forests and the drifting dunes. Choose the Brede Duinroute if you want to see the most of the dunes and the village.
Tips for the culture fan
A day of culture sniffing? Visit Bergen, a true artists' village with many museums and art galleries. But cheese city Alkmaar and historic city Hoorn, both within short distance of EuroParcs Koningshof, are also worth a visit. Stroll through the shopping streets, visit the cheese museum or the Steam Tram Hoorn-Medemblik museum, or sit down at a pavement café.
Would you rather undertake an activity? How about a challenging mountain bike course? The 'Mountain Bike Trail Schoorl' is 15 km long and 5 km wide and will give you a crazy adventure. The route leads you through dense pine forests, over steep dunes and vast heathlands. Any group can take on this adventure, because the course is suitable for every level.
Above all Alkmaar is the cheese-town of Holland. During the season (from the first Friday in April up to and including the first Friday in September) a traditional cheese market is being held here on Friday morning from 10.00 o'clock till 12.30 o'clock . The cheeses are being sold by the merchants by means of clapping hands.
This city is located in West Friesland on the Markermeer via the Hoornse Hop. Here you will find the famous ''Westfries Museum'', the ''Waag'' and also worth mentioning, the ''Hoofdtoren'' in the harbor. Here you can also visit the famous cheese market on the Roode Steen during the summer.
Discover the coast near Schoorl! The North Sea beach at Schoorl aan Zee can only be reached by bicycle. Bergen aan Zee or Egmond aan Zee, are also located nearby. Tip: keep in mind the accessibility. During beautiful beach days and especially in the weekends, the beaches are well visited.
In the nostalgic coastal town of Bergen, time seems to have stood still. Stroll past boutiques and art galleries of this artist village. The light and idyllic surroundings have always attracted writers and artists. During the summer months, art markets are held on the square around the Ruined Church. Admire Bergen's art in Museum Kranenburgh or experience an idyllic film evening in film theater Cinebergen in the middle of the forest.
Step on the pedals for a challenging course on the mountain bike. Mountain Bike Parcours Schoorl is a 15 km long and 5 km wide mountain bike route. You'll race through dense pine forests and tackle steep climbs. The trail is suitable for all levels.
The Beemster was an inland lake until it was drained in 1612. In the Beemster polder there are five forts that were part of a defensive ring: the Defence Line of Amsterdam. The Defence Line is on UNESCO's World Heritage List. Only the Fort along Nekkerweg and the Fort Spijkerboor are accessible to the public.
Not afraid of a bit of climbing and descending? Then climb the Schoorl Dunes, the highest dune area in the Netherlands and plenty of room to get some fresh air. A century ago this was one big sandpit, now dozens of bird species breed here, the most beautiful mushrooms grow and the sunlight plays with thousands of tree leaves. More than 60 kilometers of footpath take you to the highest dunes, the oldest woods or the shifting dunes.
